Frequently Asked Questions
1. Who will be my audience?
Speakers Bureau programs are hosted by libraries,
museums, arts councils, women's clubs, conservation districts, senior
centers, and other adult community groups. Audiences include business
people, retirees, farmers, and homemakers. Participating scholars
tell us that they are refreshed and rewarded by the enthusiasm of
lifelong learners. You will have the opportunity to know your state
better and share your enthusiasm for the humanities to all Kansans.
Sponsors often tell us these programs help revitalize a sense of
community.
2. How much time is involved?
Presenters can anticipate an average of four or five
engagements annually; popular topics may receive as many as 12 bookings.
You'll have flexibility in scheduling program dates, but should
be generally available throughout 2009.
3. What compensation is offered?
Speakers Bureau members receive an honorarium that
ranges between $150 to $200, depending on the distance traveled.
There is also an additional $50 for the first presentation of each
talk, plus up to $50 for the development of visual aids. Mileage,
lodging, and meals are all reimbursed at KHC rates.
