New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music

Event Schedule
August 15 - September 28, 2008

All events and exhibits will be held at the Independence Historical Museum at 8th and Myrtle, unless otherwise noted.

Tuesday, August 19th, 6:00 PM - Mid-Continent Band Reception and concert. Museum reception at 6:00 PM followed by an 8:00 PM concert at Riverside Park.

Thursday, August 21st, 12 noon - New Harmonies Downtown Concert. Sidewalk concert by guitarist John Hamlin. Box lunches may be ordered through Main Street by August 20th; call 620/331-2300.

Thursday, August 28th, 12 noon - New Harmonies Downtown Concert. Sidewalk concert by Susan and Paul Porter. Box lunches may be ordered through Main Street by August 27th; call 620/331-2300.

Thursday, September 4th, 12 noon - New Harmonies Downtown Concert. Sidewalk concert of mountain dulcimer music provided by Fred and Elsa Hester. Box lunches may be ordered through Main Street by September 3rd; call 620/331-2300.

Thursday, September 11th, 12 noon - New Harmonies Downtown Concert. Sidewalk concert by the Turner Family Singers. Box lunches may be ordered through Main Street by September 10th; call 620/331-2300.

Friday, September 12, 12 noon - Museum Luncheon. New Harmonies Tour Scholar Steven Kite, of Fort Hays State University, will speak and play examples of various American roots music styles.

Thursday, September 18th, 12 noon - New Harmonies Downtown Concert. Box lunches may be ordered through Main Street by September 17th; call 620/331-2300.

Thursday, September 25th, 12 noon - New Harmonies Downtown Concert. Sidewalk concert by the Indy Ensemble. Box lunches may be ordered through Main Street by September 24th; call 620/331-2300.

Sunday, September 28th, 1:00 PM-4:00 PM - Church Pipe Organ Exhibit and Traveling Concert. The tour begins at the museum with a speaker from Reuter Organ Company. Participants will then travel to five local churches to view historic organs and hear a short musical presentation. Transportation provided.
