Salina Public Library Receives KHC Award for
Film Series

TOPEKA – The Kansas Humanities Council awarded $1,125 to
the Salina Public Library in support of Reading Movies:
Four Directions, a film discussion series.
Scheduled for September 25-November 19, Reading Movies
is a series of five programs centered around films and discussions
about the meaning of family. The series includes an initial “how
to” session focusing on cinematic technique and structure.
Four films are scheduled with discussions led by humanities professionals
following each showing. Films selected include: An Angel at
My Table by Jane Campion, based on the autobiography of New
Zealand author Janet Frame; El Amor Brujo, the greatest
of Carlos Saura’s dance trilogy, in Spanish with subtitles;
Tokyo Story, one of Yasujiro Ozu’s contemplative
treatments of daily life, in Japanese with subtitles; and Night
of the Shooting Stars, a childhood memoir by Paulo and Vittorio
Taviani, in Italian with subtitles.
Lori Brack, Community Learning and Skill Sharing coordinator for
the Salina Public Library, serves as the project director. For a
