Date: July 7, 2006

TOPEKA – The Kansas Humanities Council awarded $1,125 to the Salina Public Library in support of Reading Movies: Four Directions, a film discussion series.

The series includes an initial “how to” session focusing on cinematic technique and structure. Four films are scheduled with discussions led by humanities professionals following each showing. Films selected include: An Angel at My Table by Jane Campion, based on the autobiography of New Zealand author Janet Frame; El Amor Brujo, the greatest of Carlos Saura’s dance trilogy, in Spanish with subtitles; Tokyo Story, one of Yasujiro Ozu’s contemplative treatments of daily life, in Japanese with subtitles; and Night of the Shooting Stars, a childhood memoir by Paulo and Vittorio Taviani, in Italian with subtitles.
