Low German Heritage Society Receives Grant

TOPEKA – The Kansas Humanities Council awarded $3,467 to
the Low German Heritage Society in Bremen in support of a language
preservation and basic research project.
This grant is in support of the continuation of monthly language
and heritage classes held throughout Washington and Marshall counties.
Graduate students from the University of Kansas Department of Germanic
Languages and Literatures will help lead the classes, and will develop
language manuals for the Low German Dialects spoken in Washington
and Marshall Counties.

A non-profit cultural organization with 30 years experience, the
Kansas Humanities Council conducts and supports community-based
programs, serves as a financial resource through an active grantmaking
program, and encourages Kansans to participate in their communities.
