Baker University Receives Grant for John Brown

TOPEKA - The Kansas Humanities Council awarded $2,000 to Baker
University in support of the “Jacob Lawrence’s John
Brown Series” project.
In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Black
Jack, Baker University is exhibiting The John Brown Series, a collection
of work by African-American artist Jacob Lawrence. These works depict
the life and times of John Brown. On June 2, Dr. Crystal Anderson,
Assistant Professor of American Studies at the University of Kansas,
will discuss the legacy of John Brown. On June 17, Professor Walt
Bailey, Director of the Holt-Russell Gallery at Baker, will discuss
the works of Lawrence. The exhibit opens May 22 and closes June
19.
