Fort Larned Old Guard Receives Grant for Event

TOPEKA - The Kansas Humanities Council awarded $1,700 to the Fort
Larned Old Guard in support of the Cheyenne and Sioux Reactions
to the 1867 Hancock Expedition project.
This project examines the background and aftermath of the 1867
Hancock expedition, which destroyed a Sioux and Cheyenne village
at Pawnee Rock. Speakers include historian Dr. Leo Oliva, Mr. John
Sipe, Jr, Northern Cheyenne Chief and Cheyenne tribal historian,
and Mr. Ken Bordeaux, tribal historian from the Western Teton Sioux
nation.
The event is scheduled for May 6. Bonita Oliva serves as project
