Two Communities Needed to Host Summer Festivals
of Learning
Date: December 1, 2006
Topeka KS – “Bar Room Smasher” Carry Nation,
newspaper editor William Allen White, poet Langston Hughes, and
controversial goat-gland doctor, J.R. Brinkley will return to Kansas
in June 2007 as part of the Kansas Humanities Council’s “Famous
Kansans Chautauqua.”
Scheduled for June 14-17 and June 21-24, the Kansas Humanities Council
(KHC) is seeking two Kansas communities interested in hosting this
family-friendly, history-centered festival of learning. Humanities
professionals portray the famous Kansans under a tent in the city
park each evening. Daytime activities include a living history theater
camp for youth, field trips to local historical sites, and special
workshops and presentations.
Host communities make a cash contribution toward program costs,
coordinate local programs and activities, and partner with the KHC
in publicizing and promoting the event locally, regionally, and
statewide.
The application to host the 2007 Famous Kansans Chautauqua is available
online at www.kansashumanities.org or by calling 785-357-0359. Applications
are due into the KHC office by December 18, 2006.
