KANSAS HUMANITIES COUNCIL SEEKS BOARD MEMBERS

TOPEKA – The Kansas Humanities Council is currently seeking
nominations of Kansans for service on its 22-member board of directors.
Formed in 1972, the KHC is a nonprofit citizen-supported organization
that conducts programs and makes grants in support of projects that
advance understanding of the history and ideas that shape our lives
and strengthen our sense of community. Annually the council supports
over 700 programs statewide in 115 Kansas communities.
KHC sponsors the annual Chautauqua that tours Kansas towns each
summer, coordinates traveling Smithsonian exhibitions through a
one-of-a-kind Museum on Main Street program, manages a speakers
bureau, provides book discussions, and awards competitive grants.
The board of directors meets three times a year. Terms are for three
years, with an opportunity for renewal. Members serve without pay.
KHC receives funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities,
the State of Kansas, and donations from private donors, corporations
and foundations.
Nominations for the upcoming selection round need are due by 5 PM
May 31, 2007. As a matter of policy, KHC accepts nominations on
a year-round basis. All nominations are retained in a register of
nominees for a three-year period.
